Living the DETOX Life (cont.)

The role of Vitamin and Antioxidants supplements in DETOX.

Farm SprayingMany people believe that eating a well balanced diet provides all the necessary vitamins for good health. In ideal circumstances this is the case, but in reality many of us, even those who feel that they eat well, do not eat a balanced diet. Environmental and lifestyle stresses can sometimes increase the need for essential nutrients to a higher level than can be obtained from the diet. On average almost 40% of the calories we consume come from highly processed convenience or snack foods which are rich in fat and refined sugar. These foods contain few of the vitamins and minerals we need. 3

Sufficient amounts of antioxidants are necessary part of any ongoing detoxification efforts by your body. The World Health Organisation (WHO) has stated that Vitamin A, C & E are vital for health. These vitamins together with selenium make up the vital antioxidants our body’s need especially in the detox process. If not, eliminated toxins induce excessive free radical damage that leads to disease or at the very least accelerated aging. Antioxidants are needed to neutralise free radical damage. 3, 4

BodyGuard health supplements can help your body and mind cope with the constant demands of living in today's busy and toxic environment by providing a broad spectrum of vitamins, minerals and high potency antioxidants necessary for a safe and balanced detoxification.

BodyGuard SeleniumXL and GetSmart supplements are potent and comprehensive antioxidant and vitamin formulas that provide can help to deliver overall optimal health in just 1-3 tablets per day.

Read more about the following vitamins and antioxidants and how they work together to support the production of antioxidants that the body requires during detox (especially liver detoxification). 4

  • Vitamin C (Calcium Ascorbate): Neutralize intermediates toxins and has a synergistic relationship with Vitamin A & E. All are essential for increasing glutathione levels. Vitamin C aids the detox process in several ways. It helps to limit damage to the body from free radical and recycles other antioxidants such as glutathione and Vitamin E. Vitamin C strengthens the immune system. It is especially effective in helping the body rid itself of heavy metal toxins like mercury, lead, cadmium and nickel.
  • Vitamin E (d alpha tocopherol): Works hand in hand with Vitamin A & C. Vitamin E & C recycle one another in the fight against free radicals. Vitamin E insures the stability and integrity of cellular tissue and membrane throughout the body by prevent free radical damage.
  • Vitamin A: Work alongside Vitamin C& E, provides co factors for toxin breakdown and removal from the liver via urine. Once toxins are in a form that can be safely excreted the bowel and kidneys take over in the final task of toxin elimination. Also helps lower homocystine which can damage arteries.
  • Vit B1, B2, B3, B6: Protective antioxidants and cofactors for energy production.
  • Vitamin B12 and Folic Acid: Provides co factors for toxin breakdown and removal.
  • Selenium XL 120, GetSmart 60 Combo

Alpha lipoic acid: Protects the liver from free radical damage.
  • Selenium: Selenium is a trace mineral with an important role in detox. It is a co-factor for the production of glutathione peroxidase, a form of glutathione that enhances the antioxidant protection against free radical damage. Selenium also makes zinc more effective and works closely with vitamin E. Selenium is best known for its role in preventing cancer, especially skin cancer and stomach cancer. It is also known for its cardio protective effects. It assists in the detox of heavy metals by enhancing the activity of lymphocytes and macrophages.
  • N-Acetyl-Cysteine: A precursor to glutathione (important liver detoxifier)
  • L-Glutathione: Glutathione attaches to toxic compounds in the liver, and neutralizes them, enabling them to be excreted. Glutathione is too large a molecule to effectively pass thru the intestine into cells, so supplementation with Vitamin C has been found to be helpful to raise glutathione levels by 50% in the blood.
  • L-Glutamine: An amino acid important in detox as it protects and supports digestion.
  • Zinc: Zinc is a mineral that works to protect tissue with the sulphur component of the antioxidant enzyme Superoxide Dismutase (SOD). It does this by converting damaging superoxide free radicals into hydrogen peroxide, with is further catabolised into water and oxygen. Zinc also works as a cofactor for alcohol dehydrogenase, the enzyme that works in the liver to detoxify ethanol, methanol and other alcohol. Zinc is important in the productions of proteins making it very important for the immune system and wound healing. Is also need for insulin activity.
  • Magnesium: Support initial breakdown of toxins by neutralizing toxic by-products and reactive molecules.
  • Manganese & Copper: All co factors for Superoxide Dismutase and enzymes that prevent free radical oxiaditative damage.
  • Co Enzyme Q10: CoQ10 is necessary throughout detox. Often called the "rejuvenation" nutrient, CoQ10 provides nutritional support to "spark" the breakdown of fats, sugars, and amino acids to help increase oxygen flow and cellular uptake, improve your metabolism, support increased stamina and vitality; fights fatigue, fights dementia and. increases exercise tolerance It accelerates weight loss by burning off fat. Feel stronger, healthier and more alive.
  • Beta Carotene: Has been linked to anti-ageing, helping to repair skin from sun damage, eye health (especially in early cases of night blindness), correcting more serious diseases, reducing toxins and of course its most popular use as an immune system booster
